A Global Open Mic

"
. Hear ye; hear ye! In cooperation with Creative Ideas and Dr.Dan - we present:

The Global Open Mic
"If no one will give us one, we may as well make it ourselves!

You are a but a few clicks away from thousands upon thousands of hours of live recorded poetry and dozens of virtual venues the world over.
I invite you to join in in the fun; explore great new venues, and boldly go wherever new poets are to be found!

. . . . . . While you can look at the sections of this page: Going Global - How to visit a Venue - The Calendar - and - The Listings

. . . . . . This 4 minute video tour, although a bit dated, helps one understand how GMT, now called UTC, is used to organize the venues not only to
. . . . . . accommodate 24-7 listing of venues but to show how to use the listing and visit venues world wide.

. . . . . .There is a greater purpose for The Global Open Mic, than promoting poetry; the Global Open Mic is one of steps to promoting social evolution
. . . . ...Checkthis out and see - read this brief description.

. . . . . .One more item, this is not the only place that lists multiple sources of poetry events, I have a small collection here.

.Going Global:

Imagine helping everyone find events in the 24-7, World-Wide,Community of Poets, Venues, and Events!

There are ways to make this page even better, here's how to: Add - Edit - Replace - or - Remove a Listing

If you want to explore the zoomiverse and find new venues for this list see:
The Explorer's Page - grow the mic

Because it is a global listing,
the venues are organized by day of the week, with local start times converted to Universal Time UTC. Be advised some nations have seasonal time changes, while this listing uses standard time only - for clarification:
Universal Time

Top

How to visit a venue:

.. .

#1 * Find venues, active at the moment, see the Universal Time display -> -> ->

- Go to The Calendar, find the day and scroll down to the hour shown, then -
... . ... . ... ..
-
if there is a link - select it.

- Venue listings provide contact information.

-
If there is no link, there are no venues starting that hour; this then means you'll need to plan a visit - see #2:

#2 * To plan a visit, have a convenient day and time in mind.

- Open the link to the time converter -> -> ->

- Select its 24 hour option.

- Enter your time zone or city in the lower left
-
your local time will show in the box above it.

- Then, in the lower right box, enter UTC and your time, converted to UTC, will appear above that

- Then, go to The Calendar, to the day, and scroll to that hour if there is a link - select it, if there's no link try those near it.

#3 * To find a particular person or place:

-
One can use a browser's text search function to find specific persons, places, or venues.

For a back up display: World Time Server

... ...
Some nations change their time from March to November -
for venues in those nations search the hour prior to the times
shown above
.

For a back up display: World Clock Converter

.The Calendar - and how to read it

. * Yellow cells with a link and "LS" indicate Live Streaming venues starting that hour --

.. * Yellow cells with a link that has "RL" indicate videos Recorded Live - you'll see this in the listings:

Daily 24 - 7

.. * Yellow cells without links indicate earlier venues may be still active so you may have to plan a visit - a white cell indicates no active venues - which also means you'll have to plan a visit...

Every Monday this June, July and Auigust. They will do zoom should inclement weather or other circumstances prompt them.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated at the discretion of the committee. One of our criteria will be to include a mix of genres (some poetry, some non-fiction prose, some fiction), so while
we won't ask you what specifically you are reading , nor "judge" or preview material -- we would like to know the genre of your work.

Now in its twelfth year, Poetry at Jurnet's is a relaxed and informal monthly gathering at which writers of poetry/spoken word and fiction; all forms of
creative writing, really ‚Äì get the chance to perform their work to a zoom-room full of people who like that sort of thing. Open-mic is the bedrock of what
we do.

And when we say 'open', we mean it.  Old hand or first timer, whoever you are and however you identify, we want to hear you!  Just turn up and sign in,
and you'll be guaranteed your share of time at the ...er... 'mic'.

Broadly speaking, our calendar of events tends to alternate between evenings that are entirely devoted to open-mic contributions – usually on a
pre-determined theme – and events at which we feature a guest writer who typically will perform a couple of sets, generously book-ended by open-mic activity.

(LS) Zoem Poetry & Storytelling Open Mic - USA - Colorado - Longmont & Loveland - English/Others - UTC: 01:00
Day + Local Standard Time:
Fridays: 7 pm MT,
Host/Contact:
Cortney Collins: grasshoppa@yahoo.com

"We change the Zoom link weekly to safeguard against Zoombombing, as a few of our members have experienced traumatic
Zoombombings elsewhere.

Our Face book group, Zoem Poetry Open Mic:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/315364949630804 Please answer the
questions or we will assume you are a bot:

We disseminate everything via our Zoem-specific email list (65 members at present) and the Face book group. This includes the link to the weekly
Google doc signup sheet, disseminated Mondays, and the weekly Zoom link, sent out Fridays. We send both in both places, for the non-social media people.

Our only guidelines are:
1) No hate or hate speech whatsoever--all the "isms" and "phobias" we are all aware of, 2) Zoem is a kindness & encouragement
only space (no feedback on our work, constructive or otherwise), and
3) 5-minute time slots. We do bring poetry with adult themes liberally, and have been known
to share works with F-bombs, for example, so attendance by minors (18 and under) is discouraged. Please email me to get on the list to receive all relevant links.

I hosted every Friday until about mid-October 2020, and then handed the venture off to the community. We now rotate hosting duties. Anyone interested is more than
welcome and encouraged to host. The host is also responsible for bringing a prompt on Fridays, with which we build our collective poem, our Zoetry, as it's come to be
called, in the chat room. Curation and editing of the weekly Zoetry is also on a rotating, volunteer basis, and is a lot of fun!"

Cultivating Voices is a live weekly poetry reading series established and curated by Sandy and Beth Yannone in response to the worldwide shutdown of in-person
readings with the COVID-19 pandemic. "In time of crisis, we summon all our strength," wrote Muriel Rukeyser in her 1949 book The Life of Poetry. During the
pandemic, The Cultivating Voices Poetry Open Mic is a virtual LIVE venue where lovers of poetry come together to listen as writers worldwide summon their
strength and promote social unity through the literary arts. Hosted by Sandy Yannone, author of Boats for Women (Salmon Poetry, 2019). Please join us. All welcome!

readings, where all participants have the opportunity to share 3 poems, or 2 poems and one song, or 2 songs (prose can be used for poetry) in very round. Because this open mic

The purpose of The Global Open Mic can promote social evolution!
Just how can poets instigate global change?

The 24 - 7 Cafe:

The inspiration for this set of ideas, The Global Open Mic, was long in the making. I believe that a certain way forward for poets to prompt social evolution is to create a single place, a source, of poetry that is live, virtual, or hybrid, but active 24-7 - a one stop, a locus, a nexus that is easy to find, make use of, and dedicated to the transformation of our civilization via The Word.

In pragmatic terms it could be a small building with one floor dedicated to a performance zone, a 24-7 cafe, where poets from around the world can speak from the stage or be present via any one of several live streaming technologies. Another floor would be dedicated to the machinery, the technological support for that effort as well as studios where live streaming events could be hosted. A third floor would be where those committed to supporting the effort would network to bring in more poets, venues, and organizers to encourage a supportive and activist aspect to our community.

This page, The Global Open Mic, would be maintained and upgraded in real time and would be a place where, at a single click one could be taken to an associated page where, in a format similar to Zoom's gallery view, one would find clickable video links to the many venues active at that time. The calendar would still serve as a searchable resource.

By creating a unique contact point, the one place where poetry flows constantly whether it is live, streamed, or hybrid, allowing poets anywhere to see, hear, and participate with poets everywhere will allow a global community to come into being.

Poets finding their global voice:

We poets can model a way to create a world of peace, prosperity, freedom, justice, and liberty with an idea from which change will come, quickly, and far more completely than we may hope for today.

To start it is as easy as lending a hand - as simple as making friends, sharing concerns, and talking to one another again and again - using the simplest forms of networking - and encouraging poets to network, globally starting with the venues here and adding more as we go.

Passing the word along at venues, whether, virtual, hybrid, or live, we can support one another as ever more poets network with ever more poets and, as our circle widens.

We create The Poet's Poll. A place where we, as poets, express on the vital issues of the day, use the web to share those polls, and soon, with tens of thousands participating, we'll promote our polling results in as many ways as is possible and as only poets can. We'll have a voice and begin to see effects because of our efforts.

The next step:

We step it up by sharing this process with other groups. Then, via polling, those groups will have a way around mass media, political powers, or the 1%.. They will find their voice simply by asking themselves their own questions, develop a consensus as to what is or is not acceptable to them, and learn how to cooperate to get their needs met.

Imagine
a global poll of women's issues, a poll concerning the acceptability of war or the unacceptability of poverty, hunger, want, and more! There will be many similar efforts as people learn to do poll themselves and ask their own questions so as to facilitate cooperative efforts for their benefit.

Imagine a global system of polling, so that millions, then billions, can have a voice. Imagine being able to weigh in on any global issue, from anywhere and that the vox populi will be heard and never again muzzled, never again be put down - Power to the people!

There is a way to do this polling and it is described here
iVote a simple suggestion, which holds promise.

If ritual currencies can be placed beyond governmental control, then iVote can also be secure. We, the people, can surely create a global polling system that cannot be shut down!

Imagine global polling:

What is the percentage of any nation's people who support its government?

What do the women in the world want most of all?

What do the indigenous poor, or victims of war, need most?

How many believe civilization is, or is not, heading in the right direction?

Which nations in the world should be sanctioned for human rights abuses?

I imagine you, and many others would have many more such questions, what DO the people think, want, need?

Why do we need corporate, governmental, or other powerful entities to conduct polling? Why can't we, the people, make our own?

Imagine the people asking their own questions, calculating the results, and knowing what we agree with, disagree with, approve or do not approve of!
