The Global Open Mic
.If no one will give us a global open mic, we may as well make it ourselves!

What is this about?

. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. .A listing of live-streaming poetry venues from around the world!

. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. .A seed idea - a draft - a model - to prompt interest, community effort, and networking -- this is not yet Click + Play

. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. An effort by poets, hosts, and venues, to benefit of our global community -- if you have ideas or questions - email Dan

. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. About the Listings - To Plan a Visit - The Schedule of Venues - Weekly and Monthly Global Open Mic Listings

What might be next?.

. ..
. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . 1) Cooperating to network, build bridges, research grants, find venues, and improve this resource. Let's have Poetry for the People!

. ..
. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . 2) The Poet's Poll - Through our venues we'll have a voice; as poets, to weigh in on issues and clarify values, here is the draft idea: iVote

How to Help Build it Better?

. .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . Add - Edit - Replace - or - Remove a Listing

.. . . ... .

About the Listings

. ... . . ... . To accommodate a global audience venues are listed by their - day of the week and their local time - converted to Universal Coordinated Time (UTC)

. ... . . ... . Some nations use British Summer or Daylight Saving's Time (March or May through October) - when they adjust time forward an hour.

. ... . . ... . To search for persons, places, use your browser's text search function.

To Plan a Visit:

* - First, this video makes using the page simple and quick:
Using the Global Open Mic, an Old School Web Page

* - Next, to see if there are currently active venues, you'll need to know the UTC, which is displayed there -> -> ->

* And go to step one, below.

This link is alternative:
World Time Server.

Step 1

Using UTC Time to find a Venue:

* To find currently active venues you'll use the table of listings: find the column for the day, and scroll down to the cell for the hour - Go here

* Contact the venue to make a visit - understand some use social media, some email, and a few use phone numbers.

* If there is no active venue at the current time, then try step two, below.

Step 2

Plan a Visit:

* Decide on a day and time convenient for you.

* Convert the time to UTC - See instructions there -> - >

*
Then use step one to find venues during that hour.

Converting Time:

First, in the lower left box enter your location, city/time zone
And your local time will show above
Second, in the lower right box, enter "UTC"
And the conversion to UTC will appear above that

An alternative link: World Clock Converter

The Schedule of Venues

* Yellow cells with links, connect to a listing of venues starting that hour.

* Yellow cells without links,
indicate venues, which started earlier, may still be running.

* If a cell is white,
we have no active venues listed for that hour - see step 2, above, to plan a visit

* Instant poetry? Some venues have recordings for public viewing - scroll for these markers:

Day + Local Standard Time: Fridays
: 7pm MT,
Host/Contact:
Cortney Collins: grasshoppa@yahoo.com

We change the Zoom link weekly to safeguard against Zoombombing, as a few of our members have experienced traumatic
Zoombombings elsewhere.

Our Face book group, Zoem Poetry Open Mic:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/315364949630804 Please answer the
questions or we will assume you are a bot:

We disseminate everything via our Zoem-specific email list (65 members at present) and the Face book group. This includes
the link to the weekly Google doc signup sheet, disseminated Mondays, and the weekly Zoom link, sent out Fridays. We send
both in both places, for the non-social media people.

Our only guidelines are: 1) No hate or hate speech whatsoever--all the "isms" and "phobias" we are all aware of, 2) Zoem is a
kindness & encouragement only space (no feedback on our work, constructive or otherwise), and 3) 5-minute time slots. We do
bring poetry with adult themes liberally, and have been known to share works with F-bombs, for example, so attendance by minors
(18 and under) is discouraged. Please email me to get on the list to receive all relevant links.

I hosted every Friday until about mid-October 2020, and then handed the venture off to the community. We now rotate hosting duties.
Anyone interested is more than welcome and encouraged to host. The host is also responsible for bringing a prompt on Fridays, with
which we build our collective poem, our Zoetry, as it's come to be called, in the chat room. Curation and editing of the weekly Zoetry
is also on a rotating, volunteer basis, and is a lot of fun!

Add - Edit - Replace - or - Remove a Listing:
There are two kinds of listings: Live Streaming, (LS) for venues with a scheduled time and Recorded Live, (RL) for archives of recordings made at the venue and available for viewing. A venue may have both kinds listings. I place copies of RL listings in otherwise open spaces so as to encourage visitors to seek out its related live channel.

....... .To add a venue please email with me the following information in three lines:

............... ............... Line 1: Venue's Name - City - Nation - Language(s) - the local start time and day - or UTC if you know it
............... ............... Line 2: Host(s) who to contact and how
............... ............... Line 3: Links for streaming, social media, instructions in order to participate, as well as a description

............... ............... If your venue records live (RL), and has an archive of publicly available recordings, please send the following information, I'll add it to the venue's listing:

............... ............... Line 1: Venue's Name - City - Nation - Language(s) -
............... ............... Line 2: the link to the source(s) of recordings and a note as to how one accesses the recordings, if needed.

........ ........ .To edit a listing, please email and me with the day and time of the listing, as well as a copy of its text and the changes you'd like to make. If a venue changes it schedule let me know the new location.

........ ........ .To Remove a listing: The host or organization advises me, and I remove the listing.
